What is $WHUF used for?

The token's utility: vouching, fees, markets, and verification

Written by Serpin Taxt

$WHUF is the native token of the Ethos reputation protocol, live on Base since January 2025. Everything below works at launch. None of it is roadmap.

Vouching

Stake $WHUF in the profiles of people you trust. Vouching is the core trust signal of the network. It's costly to fake because vouched tokens can be slashed if the person you back behaves badly. Active vouchers earn contributor rewards from a fixed pool (18% of supply, emitted by smart contract over many years).

Protocol fees

Writing reviews, creating attestations, initiating vouches, and other actions that write to the reputation graph require a small $WHUF fee. Every fee is burned: permanently removed from supply. Nothing is collected by any company or treasury.

Reputation markets

Ethos Markets let participants take positions on the trustworthiness of profiles. All markets are denominated in $WHUF.

Human verification

Verification bonds, the deposits that back "this person is human" attestations, are posted in $WHUF and slashable if fraudulent.

The numbers

  • Total supply: 10,000,000 $WHUF, fixed. No minting function exists.

  • Chain: Base (Ethereum L2)

  • Fees: 100% burned

  • Contributor rewards: 18% of supply, emitted continuously to active vouchers
